McDermitt is home to one of North America’s largest lithium deposits, a critical resource America needs for technology and national security. We are unlocking this key lithium supply, so we can stop importing it all from other countries. This project is one of the largest single investments in rural Oregon – worth $3 billion – and will benefit the McDermitt community, the state and our nation for generations to come.

Responsible Stewardship
We are doing everything we can to be good stewards of the land and animal habitat over the next several decades, including:
- Keeping as much open space as possible.
- Minimizing, where possible, the overall impact on the land.
- Limiting activity during the exploration phase to five months a year to minimize environmental impacts.
- Reclaiming land after the work is completed.

As this project moves forward with planning, we will update this page with key milestones. Here are the most recent updates:
- May 28 – We are proud to announce the 2026 recipients of the HiTech Minerals Community Scholarship. They include Dejay Crutcher from McDermitt Combined School, Aleeyah Knight from Owyhee Combined School, and Damien Kelly from Burns High School. Dejay is planning on attending Western Nevada College to study law enforcement and criminal Justice. Aleeyah will study sports medicine at Truckee Meadows Community College. And Damien enrolled in Treasure Valley Community College to pursue a degree in wildland fire management.
- June 12 – Community Briefing Meeting: HiTech Minerals met with community members in McDermitt Oregon to share updates on the project and hear their thoughts and questions.
- June 22 – HiTech and RESOLVE Inc, a non-profit that brings together business and environmental organizations, entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the creation of a stewardship area in Oregon and Nevada. Link to view
